Upko: More than enough evidence for the probes

KOTA KINABALU: The Home Affairs Ministry has been urged to immediately take action on the alleged rampant issuance of identity cards (ICs) to foreigners in Sabah.

Putatan MP Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigoh said various revelations such as by Sandakan businessman Hassnar Ebrahim and the Sri Tanjung Squatters Screening Committee were basis enough for the Ministry to carry out the investigations.

"The Ministry cannot deny the fact. It must be stamped out. It is not good for the Barisan Nasional (BN) government to keep mum," he said at the launch of his "Turun Padang" programme, Wednesday.

Mojigoh, who is also a Vice-President of Upko, noted the screening committee's recommendation for 413 of the 963 squatters in Sri Tanjung eligible for the relocation exercise to get their ICs further verified by the National Registration Department (NRD).

"For sure, I was not lying in what I said earlier (on the squatters)Ëhatever it is the Government must look into this properly and ensure those who really qualify receive the assistance".

Later, Mojigoh together with the Putatan Parliamentary liaison office chief, Alfred Lojitan and liaison officer, Kahar Abdul Hamid, presented wheel chairs to Cornelius Kadius and Jakali Lojiniu in Kampung Tombovo, Radiah Sulai in Kampung Muhibbah and Hajah Sharifah Omar in Kampung Sindil.

He also visited fire victim, Ansilmus Sitiol whose house in Kampung Potuki was razed during Christmas last year. "This programme would be on-going until March and it is for me to monitor the needs, especially development projects in the constituency, which is also in line with the Prime Minister's directive for elected representatives to meet with the grassroots," he said.
