PENAMPANG:
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan
Sri Bernard Dompok has expressed confidence the
Barisan Nasional could win the general election.
He
said the BN with a good manifesto and track
record would again win the support of the voters
this time around.
On
the PKR manifesto
which made many pledges including returning
Labuan to Sabah and increasing oil royalty,
Bernard said:” I did not have the chance to read
it but I am not going to talk about oil royalty.
I think the wisest thing to do is to get a
bigger share of the development funds for Sabah.”
Dompok said that is what the people want.
“The
federal government is very mindful of the need
for more development in Sabah,” he said.
Dompok also explained that he came back to
contest in the Penampang parliamentary seat at
the request of friends, supporters as well as
other BN component parties.
According to him, various strategies have been
planned for Penampang in accordance with the
Ninth Malaysia Plan and the Sabah Development
Corridor.
The
UPKO president also
said the party’s election campaign was an
opportunity for him to be with the people and to
inform them of the achievements of the BN
government.
He
also said he could express views freely to the
Prime Minister and government on what needed to
be done for the people.
“And, the people are supportive of the
government’s policies. I have also received
encouraging feedbacks from the places I visited.
The people are ready to support the BN.
“They are responding positively to our campaign,
they are ready to return the mandate to BN,” he
said to reporters after officiating at the
opening of the Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce
and Industry (KCCI) new building here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Dompok said the BN has a good chance
of wresting the Kuala Penyu state seat which was
won by independent candidate Datuk John Ghani in
2004.
