KOTA KINABALU:
Upko president, Tan Sri Bernard Dompok yesterday
thanked voters for supporting candidates of
Barisan Nasional (BN) particularly Upko last
Saturday.
All
Upko candidates, with four contesting in
parliamentary areas and six in state seats, won
on polling day including Kuala Penyu that had
been won by independent candidate, Datuk John
Ghani in the general election of 2004. Dompok
himself, won the Penampang parliament with a
majority of 3,063 votes after beating
independent candidate Dr Anthony Tibok, Pasok’s
Willyboard Missi and Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Dr
Edwin @ Jack Bosi.
He
was previously the Member of Parliament for
Ranau but decided to return to his hometown of
Penampang where he had been defeated in the
state seat of Moyog even when he was then Chief
Minister in 1999. “I am happy to be back in
Penampang and promise to carry out whatever it
was that I had not completed previously. I will
continue whatever projects that have been
planned here and my focus will be on human
resource development,” he said adding that he
hoped to sit with the people in order to learn
of their needs and problems.
Meanwhile, Upko deputy president Datuk Wilfred
Bumburing won the Tuaran parliamentary seat with
a majority of 6,622. Other Upko candidates are
Datuk Dr.Marcus Mojigoh (Putatan parliament,
majority 6,283), Datuk Siringan Gubat (Ranau
parliament, majority 1,387), Donald Mojuntin (Moyog
state seat, majority 2,685), Justin Guka (Bingkor
state seat, majority 171), John Teo (Kuala Penyu
state seat, majority 257), Masiung Banah (Kuamut
state seat, majority 1,672), Datuk Bobbey Suan (Nabawan
state seat, majority 2,087) and Datuk Dr.Ewon
Ebin (Paginatan state seat, majority 3,457).
